The company
Shrike Ops is the operating name of 1000033630 Ontario Inc., a private corporation in Belleville, Ontario. It builds tools that identify hybrid threats: Meerkat Watch for digital systems, and directional acoustic sensing for drones.
The name
A shrike is a pretty little songbird with a hooked beak. It watches from a wire or a fence post, then pins its prey on thorns or barbed wire, which earned it the name butcher bird. The eastern loggerhead shrike is endangered in Canada. One of its last Ontario breeding grounds is the Napanee limestone plain, near Belleville.
